LBI Museum Mission Statement

The Long Beach Island Historical Association collects, preserves and interprets the history of Long Beach Island through its educational programs, guest lecturers, walking tours, special events and an ever growing research center. The museum, situated at the center of Beach Haven’s Historic District, showcases 24 exhibits which includes over 450 photographs and hundreds of artifacts for the sole purpose of encouraging the public to not only understand our island’s rich history but also to appreciate the people and events who helped in shaping its character.

Conquer Chiari Walk Across America

Conquer Chiari Walk Across America is scheduled to take place on September 16th, 2017 starting at 9:00 a.m. The annual event will bring back a large majority of sites returning for another year and the new Ship Bottom Waterfront Park location. Fisherman Stung by Cownose Ray

The Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol reported on Sunday, August 26, 2018 "at approximately 3:30pm, the Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol and Barnegat Light First Aid Squad responded to 73rd Street beach for a fisherman stung in the arm by a Cownose Ray."

The cownose ray feeds upon clams, oysters, hard clams and other invertebrates. It uses two modified fins on its front side to produce suction, which allows it to draw food into its mouth, where it crushes its food with its dental plates. Cownose rays typically swim in groups, which allows them to use their synchronized wing flaps to stir up sediment and expose buried clams and oysters.

According the Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol, "the patient was transported to the hospital. Cownose Rays are one of the most docile species of ray and stings are rare but painful. The barb with venom is close to the body & located near the base of the dorsal fin - this makes the barb not easy to get to. Always use caution when handling wild animals."

Barnegat Pirates Day

Grab your swashbuckling children and set sail for a family fun day at Barnegat Pirates Day on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 9am to 4pm.

Meet pirates and wenches, dance to great music, enjoy the food and check out the many merchant tents. This free event takes place at the Historic district of Barnegat, Route 9 and East Bay Avenue.

There will be over 175 vendors, live bands, great food, pirate re-enactors, pirate costume contests and much more. Fun for whole family.

Fired Up Car Show

Join the Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Co and the Ladies Auxiliary on Saturday August 25, 2018 from 10:00AM - 3:00PM for their Fired Up Classic Car Show. Trophies for People's Choice, Chiefs Award , President's Award and Best Appearing Fire Apparatus will be presented at 2:00PM.

Ocean County Irish Festival

The Ocean County Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh will be hosting the Ocean County Irish Festival on Saturday, September 8th from 11:00AM - 7:30PM at Manahawkin Lake Park in Manahawkin, NJ.

This is a family event that includes live music, pipes and drums, step dancers, vendors, food trucks, and a beer tent.
Last year's Irish Fest was a huge success. This year we will have more food vendors, more entertainment, and more fun.

 

5th Annual Pig Roast

The Manahawkin Elks Lodge #2340 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, located at 520 Hilliard Blvd. Manahawkin, will be hosting their 5th Annual Pig Roast on Sunday August 26th, 1-5pm, rain or shine. $25 at the gate for adults.
